Revolution (S’aint NEW Spoken Word)

I wrote this spoken word piece called “Revolution” when keynoting a high school youth camp last summer and it’s stuck with me since then. So I finally decided to do some solo spoken word work (S’aint is my solo moniker) and figured I’d play with this one.

I recorded this at home with my hand-held recorder and samples I collect and mix on my laptop. Interested to hear your feedback, as I have others I could do similar things with if folks are into it.

We’ve had so many questions about our monthly giveaways that we decided to record one as a podcast story, so people can get a better idea of what goes on for themselves.

Hair: Jazz & Spoken Word piece

I’ve recently released two CDs on CD Baby, iTunes, etc. One is my acoustic singer/songwriter stuff, and the other is a spoken word and jazz improv project, called S’aint Trio. Though you can pull samples from CD Baby, iTunes and Amazon MP3, they’re only 30 seconds long, so I thought I’d post a full track, since some folks may not be used to this kind of stuff.

The piece I selected is called “Hair,’ which is a tribute to my ongoing, complex relationship by body hair. It’s definitely my more humorous stuff, so don’t expect the same goofiness on the whole album, but this seems to be the most popular piece when I perform it.

Amy and I wrote a book, titled MySpace to Sacred Space: God for a New Generation, about young adult spirituality. One of the main points of the book is that we need connection to one another through our stories, so i figured it made sense to tell my own.

This podcast is an excerpt of the book, following my lifelong relationship with faith. Like any relationship, there are good and bad times throughout, but in all, it’s been worth it.
